Before we became realtors, we were just like you homeowners excited to sell, ready for a new chapter. But what we encountered in the traditional real estate world was disappointing, and at times, disheartening. We contacted local agents expecting guidance, but instead, we were encouraged to undervalue our home not to spark a bidding war or adjust for the market, but simply to sell it faster. On top of that, we were advised to invest in costly upgrades, eating into our hard-earned equity. And then came the commission: 2.5%, 3%, sometimes even 5% of our home’s sale price tens of thousands of dollars in equity gone, regardless of how quickly the home sold or how easily the home sold. And for what felt like very little work in return.
We looked around and realized this wasn’t just our experience. Homes priced both higher and lower than ours were caught in the same cycle. It was clear: the percentage-based commission model was costing sellers far more than necessary and for many, that equity could be life-changing.
We realized we weren’t alone. Whether homes were priced higher or lower, sellers everywhere were facing the same issue: losing more equity than necessary to percentage-based commission fees. For many, that lost equity could’ve been used to fund a future, pay off debt, or invest in something life-changing.
That’s when we decided enough was enough.
We became realtors, not just to take control of our own selling experience, but to reimagine what real estate could look like for everyone else. We understood the value realtors provide strategic marketing, MLS access, strong industry networks, and negotiation skills. These things matter. But we also saw how the traditional commission model was broken. Why should agents be paid more simply because a home is worth more when the effort to sell remains the same?
